Two Events in L.A.

June 1, 2012

So I’ll be in Los Angeles (which this stupid website thinks I’m misspelling) next week doing two events and hanging out with friends and my wildly supportive family. The event I’m mainly promoting is my reading on Wednesday, June 6 at Sklyight Books. (Here’s the Facebook event page, if that sort of thing appeals to you.) And on Tuesday, June 5 I’ll be participating in Literary Death Match, which I’m sure will be quite a lot of fun despite the fact that the whole premise makes me deeply anxious. One of the other readers is the very sharp comedian and writer Moshe Kasher.

Two Readings in New York

May 18, 2012

So this Sunday night I’ll be reading at KGB Bar with the poet and novelist Ben Lerner, who recently and deservedly won a Believer Book Award for his novel, Leaving the Atocha Station, and the outstanding novelist, short-story writer, and essayist Brian Evenson. Then on Tuesday I’ll be reading and playing a few songs on a borrowed keyboard at WORD in Brooklyn with Thad Ziolkowski, who’ll read from and discuss his new novel, Wichita. I’ve heard very good things about Ziolkowski’s novel and look forward to picking it up on Tuesday. More info on the WORD reading. And here’s the WORD reading’s Facebook invite.

May 16, 2012

The coolest thing about my joint reading tomorrow at the Northeast is that I get to hear Dobby Gibson read poems from his forthcoming collection.

Minnesota Links

May 16, 2012

This eloquent review of Boarded Windows sums up quite precisely what I was trying for. It was also great to see this astute and funny review of my record in L’etoile, and on the same site, some kind words about my book and recent reading at the Loft. And an A-list from City Pages.

Largehearted Boy

May 15, 2012

It was a treat to be interviewed by one of my favorite musicians, Matthew Friedberger, for Largehearted Boy. (If you’ve never gotten around to Matthew’s records on his own or with the Fiery Furnaces, correct that situation now!)I also put together a little playlist for Largehearted Boy’s longstanding Booknotes series. And the site is helping present my reading at Brooklyn’s WORD on Tuesday, May 22, with Thad Ziolkowski.
